Q&A with Brittny Button
What inspired you to start Button Atelier, and how did the idea of “accessible luxury” become the foundation of your design philosophy?

My first two Palm Springs projects had real monetary and PR success. These projects sold for three times their original value and were featured in Architectural Digest and Vogue Casa!
What is the bravest decision you’ve made in building your business — whether with a client, a project, or for your family?

Our current project in Agoura Hills, is 13,000 square feet and sits on 11 acres. It’s a massive project and will be incredible once it’s finished. I’m working with architect Benoit Viaene to assist with cultivating my vision. The aim is for it to be our ‘forever home’!
Between motherhood, marriage, and running a high-profile design firm, what non-negotiables keep you centered and focused?
Delegate. It makes you move faster, get more accomplished and saves your sanity. I’ve got a steadfast team that I give autonomy to and in the end they deliver amazing results.
My real focus is to be able to be present with my kids.
What signature detail or design element do you incorporate into almost every project that makes a space feel alive?

It’d have to be arching the doorways and the inclusion of limewash wall treatments.
The arch offers more visual height to the interiors and the lime wash creates an ancient intimacy that feels rich, in a textural sense.
You’ve built a business in a highly competitive industry. What advice would you give to women who want to launch their own brand or business?

Always trust your gut instinct and be true to who you are. When it comes to the design industry it’s about producing beautiful aesthetics and being tenacious about procuring results.
I’ve learned to be more confident with my eye and assured that my feedback has real value.
How do you define success?
Having time to be with my children and that there is a timelessness to my design work.
What’s the next dream project or creative goal on your horizon — either for Button Atelier or personally?
My own personally designed furniture collection for Button Atelier is debuting in the Fall! It’s stellar!
I’d love to do a collaboration with a paint company, especially one that allows for lime wash or plaster wall treatments as well. Given that wall color is paramount to every project I work on.
Which book or podcast has influenced your journey the most, and why does it resonate with you?
Poppi Founder: From broke to Shark Tank & Building a Viral Brand from her Kitchen, Behind her Empire. For me, it’s the way she simply explains what ‘growth’ entails. Hiring the right team, being able to say ‘no’ and having relentlessness to push ahead. She succinctly outlines what building a brand means in an accessible way.
