Ambition Doesn’t Wait for the Perfect Timing
“I’ll start when I have more time.” Sound familiar? Many aspiring entrepreneurs put off their business dreams while waiting for a perfect moment that never comes. Here’s the truth: there is never a perfect time to start a business.
When I launched Experiencegift (which began as Hotelgift), I was working full-time as a consultant at one of the Big Four firms, in mergers and acquisitions, no less. Arguably one of the most intense, time-consuming jobs you can have. But evenings and weekends became my creative zone. My startup hours. And I loved it.
Today, 12 years later, I’m running a rapidly growing international business, raising two young children, staying socially active, and squeezing in workouts. It hasn’t become easier, I’ve just become better at making it work. Entrepreneurship fits into my lifestyle, not the other way around.

The Myth of “Waiting”

Waiting Is the Trap
Waiting for the right moment is one of the biggest traps ambitious women fall into. It feels safe. It feels strategic. But it’s really fear in disguise. If you keep waiting for more time, more money, or more clarity, you risk never starting at all.
Ambition Belongs in the Evenings
When I started Hotelgift, my nights and weekends were sacred. Sometimes I even worked on my business during Christmas dinner with a glass of wine in one hand and my laptop in the other. It wasn’t a chore, it was my passion. And I’d do it all over again.
How to Start a Business on a Busy Schedule

Start Small, but Start Now
You don’t need to quit your job, hire a team, or raise capital to begin. Start with:
- Sketching out your business idea
- Claiming a domain name
- Talking to potential customers
- Testing ideas through social media or a simple landing page
Validation beats perfection. Just get moving.
Time Block Like a Pro
Pick consistent blocks of time each week and treat them like unmissable meetings. Early mornings. Weekend afternoons. Even 30-minute slots can drive real momentum when used wisely.
Follow the 80/20 Rule
Focus on the tasks that generate the biggest results. Visibility, sales, and learning should always come before polishing your logo or perfecting your website.
Real Women, Real Proof

Take Emma Grede, for example. She built multiple seven-figure companies, has four children, and is still in her early 40s. Women like her prove it can be done. And done well. Emma Grede famously said, “Work-life balance is your problem. That’s yours to figure out.” Here is the thing: you can work it out if you prioritize and understand that good things take work.
Famous female entrepreneur Sara Blakely also has four kids. She built her billion-dollar company, Spanx, while also raising four children with her husband, Jesse Itzler. She speaks honestly about the pressures of being both a “mompreneur” and a CEO. She has had to let go of control and accept that work-life balance is an ongoing “juggle.” But, she can get it done, both at business and at home.
Daniella Pierson is a young female entrepreneur who took the world by storm by starting The Newsette at 19 years old, a popular media company. Growing up with ADHD, OCD, and hating school, to becoming one of the most famous young female entrepreneurs – her story is proof that anything is possible, and at any age.
Whether you are raising a family, working full-time, or a student juggling studies and a side-hustle, you can start a business now.
Common Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
- Waiting until your idea is “perfect”
- Hiding behind the scenes instead of talking to customers
- Believing you need to go all-in from day one
- Getting discouraged by others’ opinions or timelines
You Don’t Have to Choose Between Stability and Ambition
Starting your business doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You can build slowly, intentionally, and on your own terms. It may not be fast. It may not be easy. But it is possible.
You’re allowed to want it all: a steady life, a thriving business, and the freedom to choose how you grow. So ask yourself today: What’s one small step I can take this week toward my dream? And then go do it.
